Generations. Honoring my past, presently grateful for my future. #GamorLegacy

2023 first half year has been emotional, reflective, and personally challenging.

40th Memorial & Remembrance for Victor George Ekow Sawyerr, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Winneba — Ghana | Emmanuel Agbeko Gamor’s grandfather

We honored my grandfather’s passing 40 years ago with a memorial in Winneba, Viktor Ekow Sawyerr; he was such a pillar of strength and success that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren all assembled from across the world to celebrate his legacy and recount his journey from Nsayem, Central Region to Winneba to Accra. He passed away in his 40s from a fatal car accident.

10 years after carrying on Francois Kojo Gamor after his death, I was also able to host a memorial at our Airport West residence in his honor. Francois, also Emmanuel Gamor, or Uncle Emma or Emma Gamor’s passing deeply impacted my life. Besides the tussle between parents, I literally had to pick between living in the United States and charting a new, unpredictable life in Ghana, hence #MosquitoClaps, I share a bit about what my father’s legacy means to me here, here, and here. Losing a parent continues to be one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. There is no consolation whatsoever, but the gentle reminders “Your father, Emma Gamor, would have been so proud.” Are always heartwarming and help me deal with the forever burden of loss.

A few days afterward, my tribe and I honored my dad: my Nya and best friend 🐕 passed away, also at our residence after 8 years of being a staple in my home. She is missed dearly. She fought a previously undiagnosed virus valiantly. Her authoritative barking’ her welcoming puppy smiles; her company when I ran and/or took strolls in our neighborhood…She was loyal and jealous to a fault and I’m grateful she lived long enough to be in the hearts of all of my loved ones. I wish she had puppies to keep our bond, but she didn’t want to keep any of them. Of the many fortunes during this tough decade of my life, I always count Nya as a blessing and her loss while I was transitioning into a new role, a new team, and re-acquainting myself with work in Ghana 🇬🇭 with MTN impacts me deeply.

I have had this post in draft for a couple of weeks and during the month of September, when both my parents Muriel and Emmanuel Francois celebrate their birthdays, I have been able to acknowledge the grief, the memorial, and the enormous strength to continue with new opportunities while honoring my parents.

We are our ancestor’s most cherished prize and our parents’ legacy. #GamorLegacy

Be well, be safe, and be loved.
